Optimizing the performance of tree-based reliable multicast
نویسندگان
چکیده
The expected number of transmissions is a very important parameter to evaluate the multicast performance. It is often used to estimate the bandwidth consumption of tree-based reliable multicast where some special receivers or routers are assigned for retransmission handling of each domain. In this work, we will analyze and simulate the tree-based multicast transmissions to obtain the number of transmissions and actual bandwidth consumption. This paper will also investigate the problem of finding the optimal partitioning of multicast trees based on the bandwidth consumption. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Novel Multicast Tree Construction Algorithm for Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks
Many appealing multicast services such as on-demand TV, teleconference, online games and etc. can benefit from high available bandwidth in multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks. When multiple simultaneous transmissions use a similar channel to transmit data packets, network performance degrades to a large extant. Designing a good multicast tree to route data packets could enhance the...
متن کاملInterference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks
Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...
متن کاملMultiple Tree Multicast in a Dynamic Environment
Multiple multicast trees have been shown to increase the performance of data distribution when compared with single tree multicast. Node loss and congestion changes the performance characteristics of the multicast trees. Multicast tree performance feedback can be used to determine the optimal tree to use based on the feedback. We further examine an optimizing methodology, Probabilistic Multicas...
متن کاملPerformance Trade-offs in Reliable Group Multicast Protocols
This paper presents an extensive performance study in order to identify some tradeoffs between tree-based and ring-based reliable group multicast protocols. The motivation for such a study is the following observation. In communications network routing from one node to another over a tree embedded in the network is intuitively a good strategy, since it typically results in route length of O(log...
متن کاملA Comprehensive Study of Reliable Multicast Protocols over Ethernet{Connected Networks
Recent advances in multicasting over the Internet present new opportunities for improving communication performance for clusters of workstations. Realizing collective communication over reliable multicast can achieve higher performance than over reliable unicast primitives. The standard IP multicast, however, only supports unreliable multicast, which is di cult to use for building high level me...
